When Chris Jericho and Rhyno locked horns throughout 2001, neither man could establish clear dominance. Across the eleven decisive encounters in WAW's rivalry ledger, Rhyno finished with the narrowest possible edge: six wins to Jericho's five.
The rivalry changed pace through the summer. Rhyno took the May 28 Hardcore Championship exchange and later scored decisive involvement in the June 11 handicap match, the August 2 six-man tag and the August 13 tag-team main event. Jericho answered with a remarkable run of singles wins on August 11, August 12, August 17 and August 18 before submitting Rhyno at SummerSlam on August 19.
By October, the balance had swung back toward Rhyno. He defeated Jericho by disqualification on October 13 and again on October 14 while holding the WCW United States Championship, giving him the final 6–5 advantage in the ledger.
That split is what makes the rivalry work as a WAW Spotlight. Jericho owned the strongest singles run and the biggest pay-per-view victory; Rhyno accumulated the greater number of decisive wins across the rivalry as a whole. The result is a genuinely close 2001 rivalry rather than a one-sided series.
