Third-generation standout Joe Hennig carved out his most notable identity in 2013 when he was repackaged as Curtis Axel, honoring both father “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and grandfather Larry “The Axe” Hennig, capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship in the process. He also holds a tag team résumé that includes runs with RybAxel, The B-Team alongside Bo Dallas — which yielded the Raw Tag Team Championship — and a prior WWE Tag Team Championship reign with David Otunga, though a sustained main event push always eluded him across his 13-year tenure.
His final WWE appearance came on the February 28, 2020 SmackDown in a loss to Daniel Bryan, after which he was released on April 30, 2020, amid COVID-19-related budget cuts. On May 16, 2025, Hennig made his in-ring return at the Extreme Measures 2 event for Midwest All-Star Wrestling, teaming with Cal Bloom to defeat The Gentlemen’s Club in his first match in five years.
