About Jerry Lawler

Dominance across Memphis territories and the AWA started with 28 reigns holding the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship, a title created by defeating Kerry Von Erich at Superclash III. He enraged WWE fans offending Bret Hart’s parents during a personal rivalry and gained national recognition for his feud with comedian Andy Kaufman, which included an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman in 1982. Working alongside Jim Ross, the duo formed one of sports-entertainment’s most entertaining broadcast teams during WWE’s “Attitude Era”. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, his piledriver and sharp commentary defined decades of wrestling.
Lawler is still signed to WWE under a Legends contract, though his broadcast contract with WWE expired at the beginning of 2024. He is recovering from a recent right knee replacement and suffered multiple strokes in recent years including incidents in 2018, 2023, and 2025. On November 23, 2025, Lawler appeared for Dustin Starr’s Memphis Wrestling, marking the first time he had appeared for Memphis Wrestling in over a decade.
