Mustafa Ali is set for a remarkably quick return to the ring, with the TNA International Champion scheduled to defend his title on the live September 24 edition of TNA Impact.
Ali will face Jason Hotch and Trey Miguel in a triple threat match in San Antonio, Texas, less than five weeks after suffering fractured ribs and a punctured lung at TNA Lockdown.

Ali suffered the injuries during his steel cage match against Hotch at Lockdown in August. Although he regained the TNA International Championship, the physical cost was substantial. TNA subsequently announced that Ali had suffered a punctured lung, while Ali withdrew from scheduled independent appearances as he began his recovery.
At the time, there was no firm timetable for an in-ring return. That made Ali’s September comeback announcement notable on its own. TNA has now gone a step further by putting its returning champion straight into a championship defence.
Fightful confirmed the September 24 match, with Ali defending against both Hotch and Miguel on the live episode. The bout gives TNA a significant title match for the San Antonio broadcast while immediately reconnecting Ali with the rivalry that preceded his injury.

Hotch had already been positioned as a leading challenger to Ali before Lockdown. Their rivalry continued after the pay-per-view, even while Ali was recovering, with TNA using the International Championship picture to keep the story moving in his absence.
Hotch and Miguel were then matched to determine a number one contender on the September 3 edition of Impact. Instead of producing a clean path to a single challenger, the situation ultimately led to both men being placed in the September 24 championship match.
That creates an unusual return scenario for Ali. Rather than easing back into competition with a non-title match, the champion will immediately have to deal with two opponents while defending the belt he won in the match that put him in hospital.
A fast turnaround after a serious injury
A punctured lung and fractured ribs are significant injuries in any contact sport, and Ali’s return date makes the turnaround particularly striking. His first public updates after Lockdown suggested an extended absence was possible, with independent bookings cancelled and no immediate return date announced.
Ali later promoted September 24 as his comeback date, and reports in the days that followed indicated he was expected to be involved in a major match on the live TNA broadcast. The International Championship triple threat now confirms exactly what that return will look like.
The match also arrives as TNA continues building toward Bound for Glory, giving the company an opportunity to reset the International Championship picture after Ali’s injury interrupted his reign.
