About Andrade El Idolo

Born in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico, the third generation of his wrestling family, Andrade spent eight years as La Sombra in CMLL before stints in NJPW — where he is a former IWGP Intercontinental Champion — and WWE, where he captured the NXT, United States, and WWE Speed Championships. His career pivoted when Zelina Vega joined as his manager, unlocking his mainstream potential through a legendary feud with Johnny Gargano. Known for a fluid, high-impact style built around the hammerlock DDT and springboard athleticism, he debuted in AEW in July 2021 as Andrade El Idolo.

After departing AEW in December 2023, returning to WWE, and then leaving WWE again in September 2025, Andrade made his surprise return to AEW on the October 1 Dynamite before a WWE non-compete briefly sidelined him. He officially re-established himself on the January 7, 2026 episode of Dynamite, appearing alongside the Don Callis Family. He also joined NJPW’s United Empire, debuting at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January. In the main event of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 1 in Fukuoka, Andrade defeated Yota Tsuji to become the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion — his fifth match for NJPW since returning in January. The title was then defended in the Shota Umino three-way at NJPW Dominion 6.14, which Umino won to dethrone him.
