About Pete Doherty

Dorchester, Massachusetts’ own Pete Doherty debuted in 1973 under Vince McMahon Sr. in the WWWF, carrying the “Duke of Dorchester” moniker as a badge of hometown pride. An early run as the masked Golden Terror, managed by Captain Lou Albano, gave him his biggest push, before settling into his iconic role as the WWF’s most beloved heel enhancement talent for over two decades. In the late 1980s, McMahon moved him into the broadcasting booth as a heel commentator alongside Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes. In April 2010, Doherty was inducted into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The Duke’s career peak came July 14, 1990, when he pinned Haku at the Boston Garden, and in September 1991 he entered the King of the Ring tournament as a substitute for Kerry Von Erich, falling to Bret Hart in 33 seconds. Post-retirement, Doherty served as head of security for a Northeast indie promotion and made a memorable 2005 ROH appearance, where he was attacked by Homicide and Julius Smokes. He currently lives in retirement in Plymouth, Massachusetts, making occasional appearances for interviews and signings.
