Cody Rhodes says he expects to wrestle for roughly six or seven more years, and he does not intend to still be competing once he reaches 50 years old. The comments came during an interview with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, where Rhodes also addressed the future of The Rock, who teamed with Roman Reigns to face Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one of WrestleMania 40.
Rhodes recently revealed that he has signed a new contract with WWE, which he has described as his last deal with the company, though he did not disclose the length of the agreement. Speaking with Van Vliet, Rhodes elaborated on what that new contract means for his in-ring career, indicating he envisions a finite window of roughly six to seven additional years before stepping away rather than wrestling into his 50s.
Cody Rhodes On The Rock’s In-Ring Future
During the same conversation, Rhodes was asked about the possibility of The Rock returning for a singles match. Rhodes said he personally believes The Rock “probably has a couple of matches left to do.” That assessment stems directly from their shared history in the ring: The Rock made his first serious in-ring return in over a decade at WrestleMania 40, teaming with Roman Reigns in a tag match against Rhodes and Seth Rollins, with The Rock scoring the pinfall victory over Rhodes.
Although The Rock and Rhodes continued to appear on WWE television together in the aftermath of that WrestleMania 40 showdown, no further in-ring encounter between the two has materialized since. Rhodes’ comments to Van Vliet mark one of the more direct public assessments from a fellow performer on whether The Rock could step back between the ropes again, though Rhodes stopped short of citing any specific plans, timeline, or opponent for such a match.
Taken together, Rhodes’ remarks offer a snapshot of how he is thinking about his own career arc under his newly signed WWE deal while also keeping the door open, at least in his own estimation, to the idea that his WrestleMania 40 rival could lace up the boots again before fully stepping away from in-ring competition.
