Paramount Skydance’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery was completed on Tuesday, according to F4W Online, finalizing a corporate overhaul that has been in motion since December when Netflix first announced its own planned acquisition of several Warner Bros. assets.
The completed deal brings the Warner Bros. studio, along with intellectual property such as HBO, under the newly-named Skydance corporate umbrella, F4W Online reported.
Skydance confirmed the closing in a statement reported by Wrestling Headlines, announcing that “Paramount Completes Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Creating a New Global Entertainment Leader, Skydance.” The company described the combination as building on the “storied history of two of the world’s most recognizable entertainment companies, forming a single creative” enterprise.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s media assets, including its TNT cable network, have been a significant factor in the professional wrestling landscape given TNT’s longtime association with wrestling programming. Neither source detailed any immediate changes to existing wrestling broadcast arrangements as a result of the merger’s completion.
WAW will continue to monitor developments stemming from the merger as they pertain to the wrestling industry.
