Penta has reflected on the stress and pressure he felt in the lead-up to his World Heavyweight Championship challenge against Roman Reigns, revealing it took him days to fully come to terms with the magnitude of the match.
The two stars collided in the main event of the September 14, 2026 edition of WWE Raw, held in Mexico City, with Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Although Penta came up short in the title bid, the performance has widely been viewed by fans as a breakout moment that positioned him as a legitimate main event player in WWE.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Penta detailed just how overwhelming the day of the match was for him, describing the pressure involved in preparing to face a performer of Reigns’ stature on such a high-profile stage. According to WrestleZone’s account of the interview, Penta said it took him two full days afterward to process everything he had just experienced, calling the match an unforgettable moment in his career.
Penta, the 2026 Men’s Money in the Bank winner, also spoke about what he took away from sharing the ring with Reigns, telling Busted Open Radio that he learned a great deal from the experience, as relayed by 411Mania. While specific details of those lessons were not elaborated on beyond that acknowledgment, the comments underscore the significance Penta placed on the opportunity, both as a performer and as a Mexican star competing for a world championship in front of a home crowd in Mexico City.
The fact that the match took place in Mexico City added an extra layer of weight to the occasion, given the hometown stakes for Penta and the emotional investment that comes with challenging for a world title in front of a Mexican audience. Though he was unable to dethrone Reigns, the bout’s aftermath has fueled continued conversation about Penta’s standing in WWE’s upper card moving forward.
WWE has not announced any further programming between Penta and Reigns following the September 14 match, and no additional details about Penta’s next steps have been confirmed at this time.
