Stephanie Vaquer defeated Liv Morgan in Santiago, Chile to win the WWE Women’s World Championship, with Becky Lynch serving as special guest referee.
Stephanie Vaquer is WWE Women’s World Champion once again after defeating Liv Morgan at WWE’s live event in Santiago, Chile.
Vaquer captured the championship on Saturday night at the Movistar Arena, winning the title in front of her home-country crowd during WWE’s return to Chile. Becky Lynch served as the special guest referee for the championship match.
The finish saw Vaquer connect with the Sky Twister Press before pinning Morgan to secure the championship. Lynch counted the fall before raising Vaquer’s hand, with the pair later embracing as Vaquer celebrated the victory.’
The title change comes less than a week after Morgan successfully defended the Women’s World Championship against Vaquer on the September 7 episode of WWE Raw.
That match ended with Morgan retaining after interference from The Judgment Day helped turn the numbers against Vaquer. Roxanne Perez handed Morgan the championship belt during the closing stages, allowing Morgan to use it before hitting Oblivion for the victory.
The events on Raw ultimately led to another championship opportunity for Vaquer in Chile.
WWE Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced the Santiago title match following the interference, while also appointing Lynch as special guest referee. The decision added another layer to an increasingly crowded Women’s World Championship picture, with Lynch having also made clear she wants an opportunity at the title.
For Vaquer, the victory completes a journey back to the championship after losing the title to Morgan at WrestleMania 42.
She returned to Raw following SummerSlam and immediately targeted Morgan and the championship, setting up the rematch on September 7 and eventually the decisive meeting in Santiago.
The location makes the title change particularly significant.
Vaquer was born in San Fernando, Chile, and has become one of the country’s most prominent professional wrestling stars. WWE’s Santiago event marked the company’s first event in Chile in seven years as part of a South American tour that also included Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina.
WWE changing a major championship at a non-televised live event also adds an unexpected element to the result. Fans attending the Santiago show were given a title change that will now have immediate consequences for the Women’s World Championship storyline heading back to WWE television.
Morgan’s reign is over. Vaquer is champion again.
