WWE may not be done with Roman Reigns and Penta after all. According to WrestleVotes, reported by both Fightful and eWrestlingNews, people inside WWE creative have begun discussing a potential rematch between the two, despite the September 14 Monday Night Raw showdown in Mexico City originally being treated as a standalone match.
Reigns defeated Penta cleanly to retain the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of that Raw broadcast, which was held in Mexico City with Penta cast as the hometown favorite challenging for the title. Fightful and eWrestlingNews both reported that the shift in thinking within creative came after officials observed the reaction to the match, both from the live crowd in Mexico City and from the broader response it generated once it aired.
The business case for revisiting the pairing appears to be significant. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the Reigns-Penta match did what NoDQ described as “phenomenal numbers” for WWE. PWMania reported separately that the match delivered one of Raw’s strongest worldwide performances of 2026, with the figures said to have generated significant internal attention at WWE.
Rajah’s report similarly framed the Mexico City show as a major success both in terms of live crowd reaction and business results, noting that multiple positive reports have emerged from within the company since the match took place.
No rematch has been officially confirmed by WWE, and no date, venue or stipulation has been reported for a potential second encounter between Reigns and Penta. The reports indicate only that creative discussions are underway following the strength of the original match’s reception.
