Rook had earned the title opportunity earlier in September, but ahead of the show WWE announced that he would not be able to wrestle. In a video shared by the NXT social media account, NXT General Manager Robert Stone informed Waller that he would not be facing Rook that night, though Stone did not provide further details on the situation.
Following the show, Rook addressed the setback directly to fans. “I’m sorry. Sometimes life is cruel,” he said in his statement, reacting to missing the title shot after not being cleared for in-ring competition.
According to Wrestling Headlines, Rook has been sidelined from WWE NXT “for the foreseeable future” following the announcement. No further specifics on the nature of the medical issue or a potential return timeline have been disclosed by WWE, Rook or Stone.
