Shawn Spears has not been seen on NXT television in more than two months, but a backstage update indicates he remains with WWE and is still involved behind the scenes, according to Ringside News.
Spears last appeared on the July 21 episode of NXT, where he defeated Niko Vance via disqualification while in the midst of a feud with his former faction, The Culling, per eWrestlingNews. He vanished from WWE programming after that night, prompting fans to question what had happened to him and leaving his feud with The Culling without a clear resolution on screen.
Both Ringside News and eWrestlingNews reported the July 21 match and the subsequent absence, with Ringside News adding that Spears is “still very much involved behind the scenes” despite being off television. Neither outlet detailed what that behind-the-scenes role entails, and WWE has not issued a public statement addressing his status or outlining any plans for his return to NXT programming.
As it stands, Spears’ in-ring future on NXT remains unclear, and no timetable has been given for when he might reappear on screen.
