Kenny Omega Proposes Three-Way Title Match For NJPW Power Struggle

Kenny Omega has thrown his hat into the IWGP Heavyweight Championship picture, calling for a three-way match at Power Struggle after Yota Tsuji retained the title against Ryohei Oiwa.

Kenny Omega has made his intentions clear: he wants the IWGP Heavyweight Championship back, and he wants it at NJPW Power Struggle. The former IWGP and AEW World Champion proposed a three-way match for the title following the main event of NJPW’s King of Pro-Wrestling, where Yota Tsuji successfully defended the belt against Ryohei Oiwa.

Tsuji retained his championship in the show’s main event, overcoming Oiwa in a hard-fought title defense. As Tsuji addressed the crowd in his post-match speech, a video message from Omega aired, putting the champion on notice and signaling that Omega sees himself as the next man in line for a shot at the title.

Rather than simply calling for a one-on-one match, Omega’s proposal involves a three-way structure, which would presumably bring Oiwa back into the mix alongside himself and Tsuji. That framing positions the match as a continuation of the storyline that just played out in the King of Pro-Wrestling main event rather than a clean slate, with Oiwa’s performance against Tsuji potentially earning him another opportunity rather than closing the book on his pursuit of the championship.

Omega’s interest in the IWGP Heavyweight Championship carries significant weight given his history with the title. He is a former holder of both the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the AEW World Championship, making him one of the most accomplished names NJPW could place opposite its current champion. His video message after Tsuji’s win suggests NJPW is building toward Power Struggle as the next major stop in the heavyweight title picture, with Omega positioning himself as a direct challenger rather than a bystander.

What remains to be seen is whether NJPW officially books the three-way match as Omega proposed, or whether the promotion opts for a different configuration involving Tsuji, Oiwa and Omega. The video message alone does not confirm a match has been finalized, only that Omega has publicly staked his claim following Tsuji’s title defense. Fans looking toward Power Struggle will be watching for official confirmation from NJPW on how the heavyweight title situation will be resolved.
