John Cena made his first WWE Raw appearance since his retirement on November 2, 2026, and used the moment to officially confirm the details of the long-awaited John Cena Classic tournament. Cena announced that the inaugural event will take place on Monday, December 14, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, bringing an end to months of speculation about when and where the tournament would finally arrive.

Cena’s Raw appearance, which took place in Brooklyn, also produced the tournament’s first confirmed participant. According to Wrestling Inc, Cena revealed that Cody Rhodes has been extended the first invitation into the John Cena Classic. The announcement positions Rhodes, one of WWE’s top champions, as the headline name around which the rest of the bracket will likely be built in the coming weeks as WWE continues to roll out additional entrants.

The announcement quickly rippled across the roster. NXT star Kam Hendrix took to social media during the Raw broadcast to declare that he would be able to beat anybody WWE places in front of him in the tournament, signaling his own desire to be included in the field. Meanwhile, according to eWrestlingNews, Matt Cardona, who is currently on WWE’s injured list, shared on social media that he is hoping to be medically cleared in time to compete at the December 14 event, indicating his own interest in securing a spot once the bracket is finalized.

WWE’s official social media channels described the setting as the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the same Disney-owned facility that has hosted numerous WWE events over the years, giving the first John Cena Classic a notably different backdrop than a typical arena-based premium live event. The choice of Disney World as host site stood out to multiple outlets covering the Raw announcement as an unexpected destination for a new tournament bearing Cena’s name.

With the date, location and first invitee now locked in, WWE is expected to continue unveiling additional participants for the John Cena Classic in the weeks leading up to December 14. Cody Rhodes’ involvement as the tournament’s inaugural announced entrant immediately raises the stakes for the event, while interest from wrestlers like Kam Hendrix and the recovery timeline for Matt Cardona suggest the full bracket could include a mix of established stars and rising talent once WWE finalizes the field.
