AEW Women’s World Champion Mercedes Moné has revealed that her younger sister, Alexis Varnado, died in September. Moné disclosed the loss in the latest edition of her Moné Mag fan newsletter, describing it as one of the most difficult periods of her life.

According to Moné’s newsletter, as reported by Wrestling Headlines, PWMania and TPWW, she called September “an incredibly hard month” because of her sister’s passing, adding that it remains “still difficult to talk about.” Moné said Alexis was young, and that the loss has been especially painful given the memories the two shared growing up together.

Moné also noted that her sister leaves behind two young children, according to PWMania’s report on the newsletter. She did not disclose a cause of death, and none of the supplied reports indicate one. Moné used the newsletter to reflect on her relationship with her sister rather than to make any further public statement beyond what was shared in Moné Mag.

The personal revelation comes during an active stretch for Moné inside the ring. On AEW Collision on November 7, 2026, Jon Moxley and The Death Riders were attacked by Jay White and The Cut following what had started as a celebration after a Death Riders victory, according to Ringside News. Moné was also involved in the chaos that unfolded during that segment, which saw The Death Riders overwhelmed by the numbers and aggression of White’s faction.

AEW has not issued a statement regarding Moné’s personal loss, and the Collision segment involving Moxley, White and Moné appears to be part of the promotion’s ongoing storyline developments rather than connected to the newsletter disclosure. Moné remains AEW Women’s World Champion as she continues to balance her in-ring commitments with the grief described in her newsletter.
