Cody Rhodes has proposed that he lead Team USA in the traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match against Rey Mysterio’s Team Mexico at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, following his Last Man Standing victory over Randy Orton at Crown Jewel.
The Team USA versus Team Mexico showdown is already official for Survivor Series: WarGames, with Rey Mysterio, the WWE and AAA Hall of Famer, confirmed as the captain leading Team Mexico. Rhodes raised the idea of taking the reins for Team USA during the Crown Jewel post-show, shortly after defeating Orton in their physically grueling Last Man Standing Match, according to Fightful and Ringside News.
Ringside News reported that Rhodes brought up the pitch specifically in response to something Mysterio had recently proposed, suggesting the two sides are already positioning for the five-on-five clash well ahead of the event. While the full rosters for both Team USA and Team Mexico have not been detailed in the available reporting, the captaincy angle gives the match an early storyline Hook as Survivor Series: WarGames approaches.
Rhodes’ willingness to immediately pivot toward a new high-profile assignment underscores how physically taxing his Crown Jewel encounter with Orton was. A Last Man Standing Match is traditionally one of WWE’s more brutal stipulations, requiring a competitor to remain down for a ten count to lose, and Rhodes emerged from that bout still eager to take on a leadership role in one of Survivor Series’ marquee traditions.
The Survivor Series match format, pitting five competitors from one team against five from another in elimination-style competition, has long been a signature attraction of the event, and the national banner framing of Team USA against Team Mexico adds a layer of built-in rivalry to the booking. With Mysterio already locked in as Team Mexico’s leader, Rhodes stepping forward to captain Team USA would set up a direct leadership dynamic between the two stars heading into Survivor Series: WarGames.
Neither Fightful nor Ringside News indicated that WWE has officially confirmed Rhodes as the Team USA captain at the time of these reports, meaning his status remains a proposal rather than a finalized assignment. Further details on the complete team rosters and any official response from WWE regarding Rhodes’ leadership bid were not included in the available reporting.
