Former WWE Superstar and attorney David Otunga has weighed in on the lawsuit filed against Montez Ford and WWE, suggesting the footage from the incident does not support the officer's claims.

David Otunga has offered his legal opinion on the lawsuit filed against Montez Ford and WWE, stating that based on available footage, he believes the defendants have a strong case rather than the plaintiff.

The lawsuit stems from an incident on the July 6 edition of WWE Raw, during which Ford performed what has been described as a “lap dance” on a man in the crowd. That man, Noel Lucas, a Cook County Sheriff’s officer, filed suit against both Ford and WWE on October 14, according to Fightful.

Lucas’s lawsuit reportedly includes 14 separate counts, among them battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, stemming directly from the in-ring segment involving Ford during the broadcast.

Otunga’s Assessment

Otunga, a former WWE Superstar who has since built a career as a practicing attorney, reviewed the available footage of the interaction and gave his verdict publicly. According to Ringside News, Otunga said he is “not exactly convinced” that the case against Ford and WWE is strong, based on what the footage shows of the exchange between the two men.

His comments, reported separately by both Fightful and Ringside News following the October 14 filing, represent one of the first detailed legal assessments of the dispute from someone with both backstage WWE experience and formal legal training. That dual background gives his read on the situation added weight within wrestling media coverage of the case, even though he is not involved in the litigation itself.

Neither Fightful nor Ringside News reported any official response from WWE or from Ford himself regarding the lawsuit at the time of their respective reports. The sources also do not indicate whether a court date has been set or whether either side has filed formal motions beyond the initial complaint.

The incident in question occurred during a live broadcast of Raw, a setting that typically includes extensive camera coverage of crowd interactions, which may become relevant as the legal process unfolds. Otunga’s comments focus specifically on how that footage characterizes the encounter between Ford and Lucas, rather than on any additional evidence that has not been made public.

As of the reports from both outlets, the lawsuit remains in its early stages, having been filed just days before Otunga’s public comments. No trial date, settlement discussion, or further legal action beyond the original 14-count complaint has been reported.
