Let’s start with the good news, because there’s actual good news here. Kyle Fletcher chasing Will Ospreay for the AEW World Title at Full Gear is the kind of booking I’ve been begging this company to do for two years. You take a guy who’s been murdering people on Collision, you let the Callis Family stable actually mean something instead of just standing around in matching gear, and you build to a title match where the challenger earned it beating Jack Perry clean instead of winning a 12-man gauntlet nobody remembers by Tuesday. That’s a main event. That’s a guy who’s supposed to be the future getting fed to a guy who’s the present, and if Tony Khan lets this breathe for five weeks instead of booking nine other things on top of it, Fletcher-Ospreay could be the best thing AEW does all year. I’m not kidding. Fletcher’s got the look, the mean streak, and Ospreay will carry a broomstick to a four-star match. Let that cook.
Now here’s where I start grinding my teeth.
Moxley calling out the Cut for a hardcore stip on the SAME card. Same pay-per-view. Same night as a world title match that’s supposed to be the whole show. I love Moxley, I love violence, I’ve seen enough blood in enough dingy buildings to know a genuinely great hardcore brawl when it happens. But Full Gear is shaping up like a card with two different shows fighting for the main event slot, and that’s the Tony Khan special we’ve all watched a hundred times. You don’t need every faction feud resolved on one night with a kendo stick. You need ONE thing the whole building is thinking about when the lights go up, and right now that should be Fletcher putting his hand on that title and Callis smiling like the snake he is.
Spread it out. Put Moxley and the Cut on Dynamite go-home week and let it be it’s own disgusting, memorable thing β a stipulation match deserves its own spotlight, not a undercard slot getting buried under a world title angle that’s finally cooking the right way. Give Fletcher his movie. Give Moxley his bloodbath on a different night. Stop stacking firewood on top of the one fire that’s actually burning clean.
Fletcher-Ospreay doesn’t need help. It needs oxygen. Don’t smother it.
