Let me tell you what I saw on SmackDown Friday night, and then let me tell you what worries me about it.

Chelsea Green walked through Kiana James clean, hit the Un-Pretty-Her, done. Efficient, purposeful, exactly the kind of qualifying win that makes a character look like they belong in the conversation. And Green *does* belong in the conversation. She has been one of the most consistently entertaining acts on that roster for two years running β€” funny when she needs to be funny, nasty when she needs to be nasty, and quietly working her tail off inside the ropes while people are too busy laughing at the gimmick to notice the work rate. I’ve noticed. You’ve noticed. The crowd has noticed.

Charlotte Flair, meanwhile, needed a cavalry charge of Jade Cargill, B-Fab, and Michin just to survive Nia Jax long enough to qualify. Which, fine. Charlotte is Charlotte. She’s been gone, she needs heat protection while she finds her footing again, and that kind of interference-heavy qualifier is textbook re-establishment booking. I get it. I don’t love it, but I get it.

Here’s my problem.

You now have a five-woman ladder match at SummerSlam for an interim title. Five women. Ladder match. That structure exists to create moments. It exists to give someone a star-making night. And if you put Chelsea Green in that match and use her as the bumping comic relief while Charlotte Flair or whoever climbs the ladder in the final two minutes, you have wasted an opportunity so obvious it should be criminal.

Green doesn’t need to win. She might not win. But she needs to *mean something* coming out of that building. Because right now she is operating on crowd goodwill and momentum, and those two things are the most perishable commodities in this entire industry. You look away for a pay-per-view cycle and it’s gone.

On the men’s side, Finn Balor goes over in a fatal four-way and gets Sami Zayn at SummerSlam for a number one contendership. Clean, logical, builds toward the title picture. That’s a straight line. I can draw it on a napkin. Somebody in that booking room earned their money this week.

Now I need the same clarity on the women’s side. Give me a reason for each of those five women to be standing under that ladder. Give Chelsea Green a real spot in this match, not just a reason to be in the building.

Thirty years around this business. I know the difference between building someone and parking them in a spot to make the poster look crowded. Don’t park her.
