Thunder Rosa believes AEW’s characters stand apart from the rest of the wrestling industry because of how edgy they are allowed to be. Speaking to The Rockin’ Ride Home, Rosa was asked what separates AEW from other promotions, and she pointed directly to the company’s storytelling and character work.
“I just think the characters are completely edgy in comparison to other places,” Rosa said, according to Wrestling News, adding that the in-ring product is on another level as well.
AEW has carried a TV-14 rating since its launch in 2019, which has given the company more latitude for mature and edgy storylines than promotions operating under stricter content guidelines. Rosa’s comments frame that creative freedom as a defining trait of the product rather than an incidental byproduct of its rating.
Rosa has been part of AEW’s roster since the promotion’s early years and has competed for the AEW Women’s World Championship during her run with the company. Her remarks add to an ongoing conversation among AEW talent about how the promotion differentiates itself creatively from its competitors.
