Roman Reigns says Cody Rhodes is the only current WWE star who has proven capable of carrying the company’s banner. Reigns made the comments during an interview with Complex, in which he discussed using his own star power to elevate other performers and reflected on what it takes to become the face of WWE.
According to Fightful, Reigns explained that The Rock occupies a category of his own before singling out Rhodes as the one active WWE Superstar who has demonstrated he can handle that responsibility. Reigns and Rhodes share a lengthy on-screen rivalry that culminated at WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes ended Reigns’ 1,316-day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion. Reigns took time off after that loss before returning at SummerSlam, while Rhodes held the title for a year until losing it to John Cena.
Despite their history as rivals on television, Reigns and Rhodes have repeatedly expressed mutual respect for one another outside the ring, according to Wrestling Headlines. The two are also both part of the cast of the upcoming “Street Fighter” film, which was the original subject of Reigns’ conversation with Complex before the discussion turned to his views on WWE’s current landscape.
Per PWMania, Reigns also discussed how working alongside him can raise another wrestler’s standing within the company, framing it as part of the equity he has built over his career. He pointed to Rhodes specifically as someone who has already taken on and succeeded at carrying that top-of-the-card responsibility.
