Cody Rhodes Says His WWE Retirement Will ‘Probably Happen Sooner Than Later’

Cody Rhodes has suggested that his time as an active WWE competitor may be shorter than fans expect, telling WrestleTalk that his retirement will “probably happen sooner than later.” The 41-year-old made the comments when asked what lessons he took from working alongside John Cena during Cena’s retirement tour.

Rhodes played a central role in that storyline throughout 2025. Cena defeated Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to capture his seventeenth World Championship, with Rhodes then reclaiming the title from Cena at that year’s SummerSlam. According to Slam Wrestling, Rhodes said he liked how Cena approached the conclusion of his career and indicated he wants to take risks of his own on the way out.

Neither Rhodes nor the reports attached to his comments included a specific date or event for any such retirement, and WWE has not issued any statement on the matter. The remarks instead reflect Rhodes’ own reflections on mortality in the ring following his extended program with Cena, rather than an announcement of an imminent departure.

Rhodes remains an active member of the WWE roster, and no further detail on what “sooner than later” might mean in practical terms, whether months or years, was provided in the available interview excerpts.
