Chris Sabin: Motor City Machine Guns Winning Titles in AEW, NJPW, TNA and WWE Would Be a ‘Pretty Cool Accomplishment’

Chris Sabin says he and Alex Shelley could become the first tag team to hold championships in AEW, NJPW, TNA and WWE, while also praising the current state of AEW's tag division.

Chris Sabin says he and Alex Shelley, together known as the Motor City Machine Guns, are chasing a milestone no tag team has ever achieved: championship gold in AEW, NJPW, TNA and WWE. Speaking about the possibility, Sabin called it a “pretty cool accomplishment” if the duo could complete the set, according to Fightful.

The Motor City Machine Guns have long been regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected tag teams of the past two decades, having built their reputation across multiple major promotions. Sabin’s comments frame the idea of winning titles in all four companies not as an arbitrary bucket-list item, but as a reflection of the team’s unmatched résumé of cross-promotional success.

The pursuit comes after a significant career shift for the duo. Earlier this year, Sabin and Shelley signed with AEW following their release from WWE, a move that placed the Motor City Machine Guns squarely inside one of wrestling’s most competitive tag team landscapes. Since arriving, the pair have shared the ring with several of AEW’s top tag acts, and Sabin has made clear he believes the promotion currently offers the best environment in the sport for a team with their ambitions.

Sabin on AEW’s Tag Division

In a separate interview also reported by Fightful, Sabin stated flatly that AEW has “the greatest tag team division in the history of wrestling,” adding that it is not something he believes can be reasonably argued against. That assessment, paired with his comments on the four-promotion title goal, suggests Sabin views AEW not just as a landing spot after WWE, but as the stage best suited for the Motor City Machine Guns to add another championship to their list and move closer to the milestone he described.

Neither Fightful report detailed a specific title, opponent or match that would advance that pursuit, and no timeline has been given for when or how the Motor City Machine Guns might challenge for AEW tag team gold. The two pieces instead capture Sabin’s broader outlook: a team with championship history across multiple promotions now positioning itself within AEW’s tag ranks with an eye toward a distinction no team before them has claimed.
