Drew McIntyre Confirms He’s Kept Training In-Ring Ahead of WWE Return

The former WWE Champion has been off television since WrestleMania 42 but says he never stopped preparing for his comeback, even while filming movies abroad.

Drew McIntyre has confirmed he has continued training in the ring during his extended break from WWE television, telling Busted Open Radio host Bully Ray that he still has “the itch” to get back in the squared circle.

McIntyre has not appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 42, where he was defeated by Jacob Fatu. That loss marked his most recent on-screen WWE appearance, and in the months since, McIntyre has pivoted toward a budding acting career, taking on roles in upcoming films including “The Last Druid” and “Highlander.”

Despite the time away from the ring, McIntyre revealed he spent part of that stretch, including a three-month stay in Barcelona, keeping up his in-ring training rather than stepping fully away from wrestling. When asked directly by Bully Ray during the Busted Open Radio interview whether he still had the desire to return, McIntyre did not hesitate. “Oh yeah. I…” he said, before affirming his eagerness to get back in the ring, according to the interview excerpt relayed by Fightful.

The comments offer the clearest indication yet that McIntyre’s absence from WWE has been a deliberate pause for his film commitments rather than any step back from professional wrestling. By maintaining his in-ring conditioning throughout his time in Barcelona and his acting work, McIntyre appears to be positioning himself for an eventual return to WWE programming once his outside projects wrap.

No timetable has been given for when McIntyre might reappear on WWE television, and neither Fightful nor Wrestling Headlines reported any additional details regarding a specific date, event, or storyline tied to his comeback. What is established is that his last WWE match remains the WrestleMania 42 loss to Jacob Fatu, and that McIntyre himself has publicly stated his intention to return once his film obligations allow.

For a former two-time WWE Champion of McIntyre’s standing, the continued training regimen signals that WWE audiences should expect him back in a WWE ring, even as the exact timing remains tied to his ongoing Hollywood schedule.
