AEW intends to permanently keep The Butcher listed on its official roster page, according to a report from Fightful Select. The decision follows the death of Andy Williams, who wrestled as The Butcher, on September 6.
AEW paid tribute to Williams on the September 12 edition of AEW Collision, which was announced as a tribute show in his honor. Fightful had previously reported that AEW President Tony Khan insisted that The Butcher and his tag team partner, The Blade, remain featured prominently by the company following Williams’ passing.
Keeping a deceased performer’s character permanently on the roster page is not without precedent for AEW. The company took the same approach with Brodie Lee, who continues to be listed on AEW’s roster page following his death in 2020.
The move signals that AEW plans to honor Williams’ legacy within the promotion on an ongoing basis rather than simply removing his profile from the site.
