Jonathan Gresham has announced a new promotion called Modern Age Grappling, with its first event, MAG Wrestling Round 1, scheduled for January 9. The announcement came after Gresham won the Pez Whatley Invitational tournament, according to Fightful.
MAG stands for Modern Age Grappling, a style Gresham has become closely associated with over the course of his career. Fightful reports that Gresham previously ran Terminus, a promotion based in Atlanta that was built around a heavy grappling style and adhered to a similar philosophy.
POST Wrestling, describing Gresham as former ROH talent, reported that the “Modern Age Grappling” style will be showcased in the new promotion’s debut event.
Details on the card, venue and additional participants for MAG Wrestling Round 1 have not been announced. Gresham has built a reputation in independent wrestling circles for his technical, mat-based approach, and the launch of MAG Wrestling appears to be a continuation of the philosophy he previously brought to Terminus.
