Seth Rollins has reflected on his World Heavyweight Championship match with Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, describing the bout as a “core moment” in his WWE career. Reigns headlined the second night of SummerSlam by defeating Rollins to retain the title, and Rollins has remained away from WWE television since that match.
Speaking with ESPN New York, Rollins said the match carried significant weight for him personally and professionally. According to Wrestling News, Rollins said the encounter “really put a stamp on the last decade or more of what WWE has become,” framing it as a culmination of his long history with Reigns rather than a standalone match.
WWE positioned the SummerSlam main event as the final chapter of The Shield story, the faction that originally united Rollins, Reigns and Dean Ambrose. However, according to Ringside News, Rollins indicated that while this match closed one part of his history with Reigns, he does not consider the door shut on the two facing each other again in the future.
Rollins has not appeared on WWE programming since the SummerSlam loss, and none of the supplied reports indicate a timetable for his return or detail why he has been off television. WWE has not announced any further plans involving Rollins or a follow-up to his rivalry with Reigns.
