NJPW’s Super Junior Tag League opened on October 24, 2026, with Master Wato and KUUKAI picking up the main event victory, defeating Místico and Masatora Yasuda, who stepped in as a replacement for El Desperado, according to POST Wrestling and ProWrestling.net.
The win gives Master Wato and KUUKAI an early boost in the round-robin tournament, which features multiple junior heavyweight tag teams competing across the tour for points toward the league final. Opening a tag league with a main event win is traditionally viewed as a significant early marker in these tournaments, since standings accumulate across the full schedule of shows.
ProWrestling.net’s Chris Vetter detailed the full card for the opening night, noting that Místico was paired with Masatora Yasuda in place of El Desperado for the match against Master Wato and KUUKAI. Neither source specified the reason for the change in El Desperado’s scheduled tag partner, and no additional detail on that substitution was provided.
The card also featured a tag team billed as “The Swirl” taking on Hyo and YOH, as well as a singles-style tag pairing of Nick Wayne and KUSHIDA against Yoshinobu Kanemaru and DOUKI. The presence of Nick Wayne alongside KUSHIDA marks a notable cross-promotional pairing on NJPW’s junior heavyweight tour, while Kanemaru and DOUKI represent an established unit within the division.
The Super Junior Tag League is one of NJPW’s long-running annual round-robin tournaments dedicated to the junior heavyweight tag division, running across a series of touring dates before culminating in a final that determines the tournament winner. With the opening night now complete, Master Wato and KUUKAI sit among the teams who have already banked a win, while the rest of the field, including Místico, Masatora Yasuda, El Desperado, Nick Wayne, KUSHIDA, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, Hyo, and YOH, continue through the tour in pursuit of qualifying for the tournament final.
Neither source provided full details of every undercard result from the October 24, 2026 show, and no information was supplied regarding El Desperado’s status beyond his replacement by Masatora Yasuda for this particular match.
