John Cena made a surprise appearance on the November 4, 2026 episode of WWE NXT to reveal Zilla Fatu as the second participant in the John Cena Classic, a tournament scheduled to begin on December 14, 2026. Cena’s appearance came at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, just before the show’s main event.

According to Fightful, Cena was advertised in advance for the broadcast, and his arrival was met with a loud reaction from the NXT crowd. Cena spoke about the developmental brand before bringing out Fatu to confirm his place in the field.

Fatu becomes the second name officially attached to the tournament. Cena had previously announced Cody Rhodes as the first entrant, a reveal that came on WWE Raw the night before the NXT appearance, according to eWrestlingNews. With Rhodes and Fatu now confirmed, the John Cena Classic has begun to take shape as a tournament mixing an established main-event star with rising NXT talent.

Fatu has been positioned on NXT as part of a new generation of performers with ties to wrestling’s lineage, and his addition gives the brand a direct stake in Cena’s tournament rather than leaving it solely to the main roster. The announcement format, with Cena personally revealing each entrant on television, suggests WWE intends to roll out the remaining bracket spots over several weeks of programming across both Raw and NXT.

No further participants, bracket structure, match stipulations, or venue details for the John Cena Classic have been announced beyond the December 14, 2026 start date and the two confirmed entrants. WWE has not indicated how many total competitors will take part or whether additional reveals will occur on Raw, NXT, or another platform.

The tournament carries added significance given its naming after Cena, who has been widely described in coverage of the announcement as a 17-time WWE World Champion, placing his own legacy alongside the competitors he is introducing one by one.
