Matt Cardona has a blunt message for any wrestler who feels like they can’t get over with fans: look in the mirror.
In a post on Twitter, Cardona said it is on the individual performer to take responsibility for their own connection with the audience rather than blaming outside factors. According to Fightful, Cardona put it plainly, saying that if a wrestler is not over, “it’s your fault.”
Cardona pointed to his own history as an example of taking initiative rather than waiting to be handed opportunities. He was among the first wrestlers to lean heavily on social media to build a rapport with fans, and in 2011 he launched the YouTube series “Z! True Long Island Story” to help grow his popularity outside of televised matches.
The comments frame Cardona’s broader philosophy that wrestlers need to actively create the circumstances that help them get over, rather than relying solely on how they are booked or presented by a promotion.
