Jay White is back in AEW. The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion made a surprise in-ring return during the Tailgate Brawl pre-show ahead of AEW WrestleDream 2026, which took place October 17, 2026, at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
White teamed with The Gunns and the Conglomeration trio of Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy and Kyle O’Reilly in a multi-man brawl against The Dogs and The Death Riders. Willow Nightingale was positioned at ringside and worked to keep Marina Shafir away from the action, though The Death Riders remained involved in the contest throughout.
The Tailgate Brawl pre-show also featured Divine Dominion, led by Lena Kross, and the Don Callis Family both picking up victories on the card, further establishing the Don Callis Family’s momentum heading into the main WrestleDream broadcast.
White’s return comes on a night already built around a heavy Death Riders presence. AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, the centerpiece of the Death Riders stable, defended his title against Don Callis Family representative Mark Davis, known as “Dunkzilla,” elsewhere on the WrestleDream card. AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, were also scheduled to be in action on the main show.
The Tailgate Brawl additionally opened the night’s best-of-five series between the Motor City Machine Guns and FTR, with the first match of that series taking place as part of the pre-show card.
White’s reappearance marks his first announced in-ring activity in AEW within the reporting provided by the covering outlets, though the sources do not specify how long he had been away from AEW programming or detail any storyline explanation for his absence. His alignment alongside The Gunns and the Conglomeration against The Dogs and The Death Riders suggests a continuation of the ongoing hostilities between those factions, with Nightingale’s ringside involvement against Shafir indicating the rivalry between the Death Riders’ allies and their opponents remains unresolved heading into the remainder of WrestleDream weekend.
No further details on White’s future schedule or additional storyline direction were included in the available reporting from the Tailgate Brawl.
