Matt Hardy will have a new partner when he steps into the ring at TNA Destination X, as Moose has agreed to team with him against syX, the pairing of Joseph Sawyer and Samuel Shaw. The match was confirmed during the November 5 episode of TNA Wrestling Thursday Night iMPACT.
The storyline leading into the match traces back to October 29, when syX defeated The Hardys, Matt and Jeff Hardy, in a Slaughterhouse syX match. During that contest, syX targeted Jeff Hardy, taking him out in the process. According to reports from the November 5 broadcast, Matt Hardy stated that syX had crossed a line by attempting to kill his brother, framing the upcoming match as a direct response to that assault.
With Jeff Hardy written out of TNA programming ahead of Destination X, Matt Hardy needed a replacement partner to continue the fight against Sawyer and Shaw. Moose, a former TNA World Champion, opened the November 5 episode of Thursday Night iMPACT by addressing syX directly. That appearance set the stage for Matt Hardy to approach him, and the two found common ground in their shared issue with the team, leading to the tag match being made official for Destination X.
The pairing of Matt Hardy and Moose brings together two performers with a complicated history in TNA, though the circumstances surrounding Jeff Hardy’s absence have pushed them onto the same side for this particular fight. Neither Fightful, F4W Online, nor Wrestling Inc. detailed the nature of Jeff Hardy’s injury or the expected length of his absence, and no further information on his condition has been confirmed through official channels.
Destination X is scheduled to take place next weekend in Canada, according to F4W Online’s report. The event will mark the first opportunity for Matt Hardy to gain retribution against syX since the Slaughterhouse syX loss on October 29, and it places Moose in the position of helping settle a score that originated entirely outside of his own rivalry with Sawyer and Shaw. The outcome of the match figures to shape the ongoing feud between The Hardys and syX as the storyline continues beyond Destination X.
