Kevin Knight says his career path in professional wrestling was shaped by a desire to represent something he felt was missing growing up, and he credited Swerve Strickland and Lio Rush as the two biggest influences behind that goal.
Speaking with Hot 100.9, Knight explained that he wanted to create the type of representation he wished he had seen in wrestling as a kid. “I feel like I wanted to create what I wanted to see in wrestling,” Knight said, according to Fightful, before naming Strickland and Rush as the pair who inspired him most when he got into the business.
Knight also lightened the mood during the interview when asked to name the person in AEW with the worst taste in music. He pointed to both Will Ospreay and Gabe Kidd, saying he is simply not a fan of grime rap. “Imma go Ospreay. Imma say,” Knight said, per Fightful, before including Kidd in the same breath.
The comments came in a wide-ranging conversation that touched on both Knight’s motivations for entering the wrestling business and his lighter observations about life backstage in AEW alongside stars like Ospreay and Kidd.
